I had my 35-year-old Super8 films copied onto DV tape by filmfix. This allowed me to read the films into the computer via camcorder to edit and add sound. It worked well. What amazed me was the high quality of the copies. It's better than projecting them onto a screen with a standard film projector. Copying the films yourself via projection and recording from the screen with a digital camcorder isn't worth it, even if flickering can be avoided by setting low shutter speeds: the image sharpness is rarely optimal, and the colors are distorted and partially lost. Compared directly on the screen, the projection copy looks dull with a gray tone compared to the filmfix copy. I'm impressed.
